writing journey

When I started writing, it was on Instagram. I knew that it wasn’t really a writing platform, but it was easy and immediate. It felt like an easy place to start. If someone wanted to comment, it happened right away. Sometimes there was a conversation. Lately though, I’m no longer inspired in the same way.

I guess I’m taking some time today to think about my writing because I need a change. I’ve been posting most days for almost three years, stopping just once on IG. Now, though, I’m wondering about the ‘why’ of it all. Yes, I like to write. It’s a creative outlet. But something needs to shift and I’m not sure what. Maybe it’s where I’m putting my writing? I’m thinking about where else it should be. Or where it might be. About possibilities.

I know why I started writing on Instagram. But I’m not really sure why I’m still writing there. Because Instagram isn’t really about writing at all, is it? But it is about connection, and it is nice to have words that I’ve written, actually read by someone. Even just a few people. Otherwise, I may as well be talking to myself!

Anyway, in thinking about ‘next steps’, I took another look at this blog which I started a couple of years ago. It already has some pieces published. And I have heaps of drafts. As you do. I’m also wondering if blogging is simply sharing your writing. Should a blog be about what other people might interested in? Or can I just write what I like. Like on IG?

Let’s call this another form of a creative Notebook of my Journey. And as I resume my blogging adventure, I’m taking another small step on my painfully slow and very cautious journey with writing.
